This page shows the resultant work from my days 'out and about'. Some of the work is done whilst on site at museums etc. Other work is the result of referring to photos taken and/or sketches made during the day

Next Meeting is Saturday 3rd August at The Mill, North Mills, Frog Island, Leicester LE3 5DL
I spent a very pleasant day sketching at the Bishop Street Methodist Church in Leicester. I produced 2 images: the above is a 8" x 12" water colour and there was also a postcard sized image which is to be part of The Leicester City OPEN / 100 Artists Pop-Up Show.
This was painted in November 2018 at a Midland Region GAVA sketch day at Cosford Air Museum,
Both these watercolours were painted at RAF Cosford Mainbase during a Midland Region GAVA sketch day in October 2018.
Further work was done to the Jaguar during the following days to finish it.
A watercolour painted on a Midland and West Region GAVA sketch day at the Jet Age Museum, Gloucester, September 2018.
It is nice to use some imagination or artistic license at times. This was painted during a GAVA sketch day at Newark Air Museum. Although it was a very hot and sunny day, and the aircraft is a static display, I thought it would be interesting to show it flying/landing and in a more atmospheric sky.
This was painted recently at a GAVA sketch day. The aircraft is inside one of the hangers at Cosford Air Museum, but again imagination took hold, and I have chosen to paint it in a dust storm to compliment it's desert paint scheme.
Painted on a recent trip to the East Midlands Aeropark. The Aeropark is located in the north-west corner of East Midlands Airport close to the village of Castle Donington. http://eastmidlandsaeropark.org/
Newark Air Museum, inside one of the hangers, this Vickers Varsity is an off white colour with a red stripe running along the aircraft and it was some what in shade. I decided that as an exercise I would pick a pallette based on 2 colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel, purple and yellow.
I like to paint different subjects. This tired looking truck caught my eye during a sketch day at Boscombe Down Aviation Collection - Old Sarum Airfield Museum
The British Motor Museum is located at Gaydon in Warwickshire. The Guild of Aviation artists don't just visit Aviation related sites, we also like to mix things up a bit and try something different.
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is based at East Kirkby in Lincolnshire. 'Just Jane' is the Lancaster that is used for taxi ride experiences, the aircraft does not currently fly. I took a series of photographs during my visit, and the resultant painting was done when I returned home.
I only had an afternoon available, and wanted to achieve at least 3 pieces of work. Due to time limitations I allowed myself 50 minutes to complete each. The back drop of this picture was improvised, as the original view had a fairly drab looking hanger as a backdrop to the aircraft. Note the VC-10 anniversary logo on the tail plane of the aircraft.
On to the second viewpoint of the VC-10. I wanted to stay with the same subject but moved to the rear port side quarter of the aircraft to do a quick study of the engines. The day was dry but a little dull at times, I still managed to catch some reflections.
Finally the third viewpoint, I'm on the starboard side, level with the wing tip and standing on a grassy knoll. The sun came out and I decided to have some fun with colour............an unexpected abstract.
